Luiz and Frank Collect NEWMAC Soccer Weekly Honors

Springfield, Mass. - October 10, 2017 - Springfield College's Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) and Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.) have been recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for their impressive performances last week, and both collected the conference's weekly awards, announced on Monday.

Luiz, a sophomore forward and Physical Education major on the Springfield College women's soccer team, was named the NEWMAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Frank, a junior goalkeeper and Sport Management major on the Springfield College men's soccer team, was the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

Luiz was outstanding in a pair of wins for the Pride last week, as the Newington, Conn. native totaled five assists on eight goals for the maroon and white. In a 4-2 win over Clark on Tuesday, Luiz recorded a pair of assists in 9:55 to facilitate a three-goal run to lead the Pride to victory, before coming back and assisting on three of Springfield College's four goals in a 4-1 win over Wellesley on Saturday. 

Frank was instrumental in a pair of wins for the Pride last week, leading the maroon and white to an overall record of 10-0-0 to start the year. In a 2-0 win over Framingham State on Tuesday, Frank had five saves and held the Rams scoreless in 45 minutes of play, before coming back to stifle MIT, holding them scoreless with three saves in 90 minutes of play. 
 
On Tuesday, October 10, both the Springfield College men's and women's soccer teams will be on Brock-Affleck Field, as the women take on Babson at 4:30 p.m. before the men's team hosts UMass Boston at 7:30 p.m.
