Springfield, Mass. - January 9, 2017 - Springfield College junior Nick Ruiz (Taunton, Mass.) was selected to attend the 2017 NCAA Division III Student Immersion Program this January in conjunction with the NCAA Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Last year only 40 Division III student-athletes were accepted into the program.
While in Nashville, Ruiz will participate in programming specific to student-athletes and will have the opportunity to attend the legislative voting session. In addition, the Sport Management major recipients receive DiSC training, and attend welcome and debrief meetings. The goal of the Immersion Program is to build a pipeline of talented ethnic minority candidates, with an interest in Division III coaching and/or administration, in an effort to ultimately diversify the division.
"I applaud Nick for taking advantage of an opportunity when presented to him," said Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson. "This experience, coupled with what he learned last year interning in our office, will benefit him as he continues to educate himself about intercollegiate athletics. Nick is a great representative of not only our our student-athletes, but the entire Springfield College community."
