Springfield, Mass. - October 23, 2018 - For the first time in his career, Springfield College's Nick Giorgio (Cumberland, R.I.) was named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week after an impressive performance last Saturday.
Dating back to 1999, the honor roll recognizes the top individual performance at each position, drawn from nominations provided by schools. This is the 24th time in program history that Springfield has been recognized on the national honor roll. Springfield previously had a student-athlete honored this year when Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.) was recognized after his six-touchdown performance in a season-opening 42-21 win over Western New England.
Giorgio is the fourth defensive lineman in program history to be tabbed to the D3football.com National Team of the Week, joining Max Nacewicz, Mike Nicol, and Brian McLellan. In Saturday's 23-11 win at Catholic, the senior posted a team-best 11 tackles, including six solo stops , and was in the Cardinals backfield all afternoon en route to six tackles for loss, which resulted in a loss of 29 yards. He also totaled 2.5 sacks. Giorgio's six tackles for loss is tied for the most in a single game in Division III football this year and he became one of only eight players in all of college football to have six stops behind the line of scrimmage in a game in 2018. To date, the Business Management major ranks third in Division III football with 10.5 sacks and is fourth in the country with 19 tackles-for-loss.
