Danbury, Conn. - March 9, 2017 - Springfield College first-year Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) was selected as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year, in addition to earning ECAC First Team All-Star honors.
It has been a decorated year for Ross, who earlier this season became the fourth-ever Springfield College men's basketball student-athlete to garner the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Rookie of the Year recognition.
A local product from nearby Northampton, Mass., Ross put together one of the best seasons of any first-year in all of college basketball. His 22.7 points per game is the fourth most among all freshmen in the country, while his 13 double doubles is also the fourth-highest total among rookies in the nation.
One of five student-athletes to earn ECAC First Team All-Star honors, Ross led the NEWMAC in scoring with 22.7 points per game, while his 9.0 rebounds per contest was second best. He registered a conference-best 46 steals, while his 81 assists ranked seventh as he averaged just over 33 minutes per game. This season, Ross scored at least 20 points in 19 games, including four 30-point outings, and was flooded with honors throughout the season, earning five conference, eight regional, and one national weekly accolade.
