Post and Ross Collect NEWMAC Men's Basketball Weekly Accolades

Springfield, Mass. - January 2, 2018 - The Springfield College men's basketball duo of Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) and Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) were recognized by the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for their efforts on the hardwood over the weekend.  Post was named the NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week, while Ross was tabbed the NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week, marking the second time this season that Post and Ross have swept the NEWMAC's weekly honors.

Post earned All-Tournament Team honors in helping Springfield College win the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic. In his two outings, Post hauled in 12 rebounds a game to go along with 9.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game. The sophomore grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with three assists off the bench in the 74-53 win over Thomas before coming up with a double-double, consisting of 14 points and 12 rebounds in leading the Pride to a win over nationally-ranked Wesleyan in the title game.

Ross led the Pride to the Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic title over the weekend with wins over Thomas and 12th-ranked Wesleyan and was named MVP of the Classic. The sophomore averaged 25 points per game, shooting nearly 41% from the floor to go along with 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists. and 1.5 steals per game while playing over 35 minutes a contest. Ross helped the Pride snap a five-game skid on Saturday as he totaled 24 points and six rebounds in a 21-point win over Thomas before putting together a remarkable showing in the championship game, handing No. 12 Wesleyan their first loss of the season. The sophomore recorded 26 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block and help Springfield rally from a 15-point second-half deficit to defeat a nationally-ranked team for the sixth-consecutive season.

Springfield will open up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Wednesday night when it travels to face the defending Division III national champions, Babson College, for a 7 pm tilt.
