Allen Fires A 73 To Lead Golf At Duke Nelson Invitational

Middlebury, Vt. - September 17, 2016 - The Springfield College golf team opened up the first day of the Duke Nelson Invitational at Ralph Myhre Golf Course on Saturday and is currently tied for 13th out of a 22-team field with a score of 315.

Competing on the par-71 course on the Middlebury College campus, Skidmore leads the 22-team field with a team score 296 after 18 holes, followed by Middlebury (297), Amherst (302), and Rochester (306). 

Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) began his junior season with the Pride in impressive fashion as he fired a 73 and sits in fourth place individually.  

In their first collegiate competition, both Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) and Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) each recorded scores of 80, while first-year Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) carded an 82.  

Additionally, Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) totaled a first-round score of 84 to round out the Pride's scoring.
