Golf In 14th After First Round Of Williams Invitational

Williamstown, Mass. - September 24, 2016 - The Springfield College golf team competed in the opening day of the Williams Invitational at the Par 71, Taconic Golf Club on Saturday.  Afer the first round, Springfield totaled 327 strokes and sits in 14th place out of the 18-team field.

A week removed from opening the season with first-round 73 at Middlebury, Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) put together another strong first 18 holes for Springfield as he posted a 76 to be tied for 12th invididually.

Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) continued to improve on his scores this season and carded a 79 for Springfield, while Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) posted an 82.

Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) rounded out Springfield's scoring as they registered a 90 and 92, respectively.  

Trinity leads the field with a team score of 301 after the first day of competition, followed by Williams (302), Amherst (305), Middlebury (307), and Tufts (309).

The Pride will conclude the Williams Invitational on Sunday morning.
