Golf Places 15th at Williams Invitational

Willamstown, Mass. - September 25, 2016 - The Springfield College golf team finished 15th at the Williams Invitational on Sunday as it concluded the two-day event with 627 strokes while playing at the Par 71, Taconic Golf Club.

Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) was Springfield's top finisher as he finished with a two-day total of 162 after posting an 86 on Sunday to finish tied for 35th.

Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) carded an 82 for the second-straight round to finish with a 164 and place tied for 46th, while Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) registered a 91 on Sunday en route to a 170.

Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) totaled a 184 (90-94) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) was right behind him with a 185 (92-93).

The field of 96 golfers spanning 18 college teams battled cold early morning temperatures and heavy fog before host Williams eventually won the event with a score of 599, while Trinity placed second with a 604. Middlebury and Tufts each totaled 619 strokes, and Babson rounded out the top five with a 623.

Next weekend, Springfield will compete in the NECC Championships at Wachusett Country Club.
