Golf Produces a Seventh-Place Finish at Western New England Invitational

Springfield, Mass. - April 20, 2017 - The Springfield College golf team made the quick trip to Veterans Golf Course to compete in the Western New England Invitational on Thursday.

The Pride registered a team score of 325 strokes to finish seventh among the field. WNE earned the title with 300 strokes, while RIC (302), Babson (303), Endicott (309), and Salem State (315) rounded out the top five.

Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) continued to produced Springfield's lowest score, as he has for much of the season, carding a 78 to finish tied for 13th. Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) registered an 81, while both Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) each posted rounds of 83.  Freshman Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) concluded his round with an 86.

Springfield will appear in its season finale on April 24 when it plays in the Blazer Spring Invitational held at the Orchards Golf Club.
