Amherst, Mass. - October 9, 2017 - The Springfield College golf team battled rainy and windy conditions on Sunday and tied for sixth out of the 16-team field at the Elms College Blazer Fall Invitational, held at Hickory Ridge Golf Club.
After scoring a 308 on Saturday, the Pride totaled 320 strokes on Sundy to finish tied for sixth with host Elms after posting a two-day total of 628. Babson won the title with 598 strokes followed by Western New England (612) and Rhode Island College (612), Westfield State (619), and Nichols (622).
Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) delivered his second-straight round of 76 to pace Springfield's efforts as he tied for 10th out of the 80 individuals. After posting a 74 on Sunday, Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) totaled an 83 on Sunday to tie for 25th, while both Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) and Greg Allen (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) recorded 82's. Travis Price (Reading, Mass.) bounced back with Springfield's second-lowest score of the day, notching an 80 to better his score from the day before by five strokes.
Springfield will conclude the fall portion of its schedule on October 22-23 at the NEIGA Championships on Cape Cod.
