Golf Finishes Ninth at Bill Detrick Invitational

Newington, Conn. - September 9, 2018 - The Springfield College golf team finished ninth in their first tournament of the season as they concluded the Bill Detrick Invitational on Sunday at Indian Hill Country Club.

As a team, Springfield combined for 636 strokes as they posted their second-straight day of a team score of 318.  Host Trinity College placed first in the 10 team field, shooting a two-day total of 572 to finish -4 as a team.  Babson finished second as it trailed the Bantams by 24 strokes with a 596, followed by Amherst (608), Tufts (611), Manhattanville, Wesleyan, WNE, Springfield, and Elms.  

Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) was one again the Pride's top scorer and delivered a 76 to finish the two-day tournament tied for 18th individually with a 154.  Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) posted a 78 to shoot a 158, Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) registered an 81 a day after shooting 80, while Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) carded an 83 to finish the weekend with a 163. 

Additionally, Liam Whitman (Westfield, Mass.), shot his second-straight round of 86 and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) recorded a 91.

Springfield will hit the links again next weekend at the Duke Nelson Invitational in Middlebury, Vt.
