Middlebury, Vt. - September 16, 2018 - Thanks to a pair of top-10 performances by Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) and Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.), the Springfield College golf team tied for 10th at Duke Nelson Invitational on Sunday at the Ralph Myhre Golf Club.
The Pride's 10th-place finish marked Springfield's best showing at the tournament since 2012 when it also tied for 10th. Williams shot a 584 to win the competition, followed by Trinity (588), NYU (590), Babson (592), and Johnson & Wales (595).
Raichle put together a sensational weekend, carding a 72 on Sunday a day after posting a 73, as he tied for fourth individually among the 111 golfers in the event. Strong was equally as impressive, posting back-to-back rounds of 73 to tie for seventh place.
Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) shot an 81 on Sunday for a two-day total of 159, while Liam Whitman (Westfield, Mass.) bounced back with a 78 on Sunday to finish his weekend with a 160. Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) also improved four shots in his second round, totaling a 79 en route to a two-day score of 162.
Next weekend, Springfield will head to the Berkshires to play at Taconic Golf Club in the Williams Invitational.
