South Hadley, Mass. - October 7, 2018 - The Springfield College golf team concluded the Blazers Fall Invitational on Saturday and finished fifth out of the 17 teams who played in the two-day tournament at the Ledges Golf Club.
Despite a picture-perfect fall afternoon to play, scoring conditions were significantly difficult as no team in the top 10 improved on their day one score. After posting a 313 on Saturday, the Pride scored a 325 on Sunday. Husson held on for the win (608), followed by Amherst (616), Western New England (620), and Westfield State (636).
Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) showed plenty of toughness on the course as he battled his way to tying for 12th among the 87 golfers in the event . The junior turned in a two-day score of 156, including an 80 on Sunday. Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) registered a 79 for the second-straight day to tie for 14th with a 158, while Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) bettered his first-round score by three with a 79 on Sunday to finish in 18th. Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) also finished inside the top 25 as he tied for 23rd with a two-day mark of 164, and Joe Piwowarski (Cumberland, Maine) posted an 87 on Sunday to register a weekend score of 177.
The Pride will finish up the fall portion of its schedule in two weeks at the NEIGA Championships on Cape Cod.
