Golf In 18th Place After First Day of NEIGA Championships

Brewster, Mass. - October 21, 2018 - Playing in its final tournament of the fall season, the Springfield College golf program kicked off the first day of the 84th NEIGA Championships at The Captains Golf Course on Sunday.

Of the 23 teams competing in the regional championship, Springfield is in 18th after posting a first-round score of 335.  Williams posted a team score of 310 to lead the field, and is closely followed by Babson, which turned in a 313.  Husson sits in third with a 314, Middlebury is fourth at 315, and Nichols and Western New England will enter the second tied tied for fifth after turning in 317's.

 Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) had the Pride's best showing on the day and sits just five strokes back after turning in a six-over, 78.  The first-year is one of nine players who is tied for 17th out of the 114-player field. Mike Strong (Newington, Conn.) carded an 80 and is tied for 33rd, while Matt Gazaille (Palmer, Mass.) shot an 86.  Jake Raichle (Bethlehem, N.H.) signed for a 91 and Doug Shane (Hamden, Conn.) registered a 93.
