Men's Gymnastics Entertains Penn State In Home Opener

Springfield, Mass. - January 29, 2017 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team battled Penn State University on Sunday afternoon in Blake Arena in a showdown of two of the top men's collegiate programs on the East Coast.

The Nittany Lions prevailed over Springfield by a score of 408.100 to 384.550.

In the all-around competition, Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) finished second with a career-best mark of 78.900.  Lewis had Springfield's best score on the pommel horse with a 13.700 and on the rings after notching a 13.400.

On the floor exercise, both Nick Jama (Westfield, Mass.) and Corey Matthews (Kernerville, N.C.) tied for fourth with scores of 12.900 for the Pride.

Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.) and Lewis each tallied team-best marks of 13.800 on the vault, while Mike Grimaldi (Middletown, N.J.) produced a score of 13.500 to lead Springfield's efforts on the parallel bars.  Additionally, on the high bar, Springfield's Phil Ordonez (Jacksonville, Fla.) registered the fourth-best score with a 12.500 on the afternoon. 

The Pride will be back in action next Sunday when it hosts the New England Invitational Championships.
