Chicago, Ill. - April 8, 2017 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team finished fourth at the 2017 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Men's Gymnastics Championships, hosted by University of Illinois-Chicago on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride put together its best team score of the season with a 392.200 in head coach Steve Posner's final ECAC Championship after 35 years at the helm of the program. Saturday's competition was highlighted by the efforts of Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.), who was named the ECAC Rookie of the Year. The top six finishers on each event earned All ECAC honors, with Springfield landing six all-conference recognitions.
Lewis put together a fourth-place finish in the all-around competition as he tallied a career-high mark of 79.500. Chris Graff (Old Bridge, N.J.) notched a 78.500, also a career-high, en route to a sixth-place finish.
Graff had Springfield's best individual event performance on the day, as he placed third on the pommel horse with a 14.300.
On the floor, Springfield had a pair of student-athletes in the top six, with Corey Matthews (Kernerville, N.J.) scoring a 13.850 for fifth and Nick Jama (Westfield, Mass.) totaling a 13.800 for sixth.
Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) registered a 14.000 on the parallel bars, the fifth-best score in the championship. The sophomore also had the Pride's best mark on the high bar, a 13.250, as he tied for 12th.
Joshua Dieker (Ovieda, Fla.) had Springfield's top score on the rings, as he posted a 13.150 which was good enough for 10th. Additionally, Lewis was credited with a 13.900 on the vault.
