Chicago, Ill. - February 10, 2019 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics spilt a tri-meet with Penn State and Illinois-Chicago on Sunday afternoon as the Pride posted a team score of 372.900. The Nittany Lions outdistanced the field with a 395.450, while host UIC scored a 356.550.
Lewis would deliver the winning score on the vault, as he earned a 14.250, which proved to be the best mark of the 17 student-athletes to compete in the event. Christian Wilkey Jr. (Lowell, Mass.) also performed well, scoring a 13.450 en route to finishing in seventh as part of a team effort that resulted in the Pride's best rotation of the day, a 66.650.
Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) was the runner-up on the parellel bars after he tallied a 13.050, while Lewis finished fifth with a 12.650, and Lamberton tied for eighth after earning a 12.200. Haas would again provide Springfield's best mark on the horizontal bar with a 12.300, with Lewis notching a 12.100, and Kyle Lukaesko (Connellsville, Pa.) recording a 12.050.
Nick Cramer (Lincoln, Neb.) tied for fourth on the pommel horse with a 12.450, closely followed by Jack Vollo's (Rochester, N.Y.) score of 12.300, which was good enough for sixth. On the floor exercise, Lewis had the Pride's best score as he delivered a 13.500 to finish in eighth place, while Wilkey Jr. posted a career-high 13.250 and Lamberton registered a 13.150.
The Pride had three of the top nine scores on the rings, with Wilkey Jr. posting another career-high mark of 12.750. John Rowbotham (Tyngsboro, Mass.) added a season-best mark of 12.700 and Lewis hit for a 12.450.
Springfield will now prepare for a tri-meet on February 24 against William & Mary and Temple which will be held in Blake Arena at 1:00 pm.
