Schenectady, N.Y. - March 9, 2019 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team was bested by Union, 15-4, in a non-conference meeting on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride has now dropped its last three outings to drop to 1-3. The win boosted Union's record to 3-0 on the year.
In a game where Springfield was outshot by a 58-33 margin, netminder Cole Finerty (Kensington, N.H.) made 19 saves for the visitors. Joseph Cameron (Stoneham, Mass.) went 10-of-17 on face-offs and picked up six ground balls, and Springfield received goals from Patrick Watson (Franklin, Mass.), Lucas Habich (Little Silver, N.J.), Tommy Nash (Massapequa, N.Y.), and Zachary Schuette (Ballston Spa, N.Y.) The Pride committed 24 turnovers in the outing.
Union took control of the game from the onset, producing seven goals on 18 shots in the first quarter, including four markers in the opening five minutes. The hosts lead would balloon to 10-0 heading into the half after they outshot Springfield by a 16-4 margin in the second quarter.
With 12:07 left in the third quarter, the Dutchmen's cushion would grow to 12-0 before Schuette buried a feed from Ray McCarthy (Somers, Conn.) with three seconds left in the stanza for the Pride's first goal of the afternoon.
In the final 15 minutes of action, Springfield managed to find the back of the cage three times on 15 shots, but it wasn't enough as Union was able to hold on for the victory.
In the midst of a six-game road swing, Springfield will next play at Endicott on Saturday, March 16. Face-off is scheduled for 1 pm.
