Boston, Mass. - September 25, 2017 - Springfield College's Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.) of the men's soccer team has been recognized for his impressive performance this past Saturday against Babson, as he was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic (NEWMAC) Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week honors, announced on Monday afternoon.
Murphy, a senior captain and Finance major at Springfield College, helped lead the nationally-ranked Pride to a 1-0 victory over Babson, as he found the back of the net just 9:55 into the second half, a goal that proved to be the difference in the win. With the victory over the Beavers, Springfield College, which was ranked No. 19 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division III National Rankings, improved to 6-0 overall, marking the first time in the program's Division III history that Springfield College has won six-straight matches to begin the year.
Up next, Springfield College will return to Brock-Affleck Field on Tuesday, Septembe 26 when it will host Wentworth in a non-conference match at 4 p.m.
