Kansas City, Kan. - October 12, 2017 - The Springfield College men's soccer program was recognized by the United Soccer Coaches for its dedication to academics as well as athletics, as the Pride was selected as a recipient for the 2017 United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award.
Springfield College, which has continuously improved its cumulative grade-point over the last five years, posted a team GPA of 3.32 last spring, and has now earned the Team Academic Award for the last four season.
A total of 842 soccer teams (296 men, 546 women) earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2016-17 academic year. Among these programs are 210 schools, including Springfield College, which received honors for both their men and women's teams.
To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the entire academic year. The team GPA is determined by adding every player's GPA, then dividing by the number of players.
The Springfield College men's soccer program is currently off to its best start in program history (11-0-0) and will host Emerson on Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday, October 14 at 12 p.m. before taking on Western New England at Lusitano Stadium in Ludlow, Mass. at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 15.
