Fitzgerald and Reggio Earn NEWMAC Weekly Diving Honors

Springfield, Mass. – December 7, 2009 – After a dominating weekend on the diving boards, both Matt Fitzgerald and Michelle Reggio were honored by the conference office as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s and Women’s Divers of the Week.

Fitzgerald had an outstanding weekend at the TCNJ Diving Invitational for the Pride. On Friday evening, the Pelham, N.H. native qualified for nationals in both the 11-dive three-meter and six-dive three-meter as he notched 464.1 points in the 11-dive three-meter, and 313.68 points in the six-dive three-meter, finishing first in those events. On Saturday, he dominated the field and exceeded qualifying standards as he scored 454.85 points to take the 11-dive one-meter crown, and 292.35 points to lead the field in the six-dive one-meter event.

Reggio led the women’s diving squad at the TCNJ Diving Invitiational over the weekend as she was tremendous. On Friday, Reggio finished in first with a 11-dive one-meter national-qualifying score of 441.8, while also taking first in the six-dive one-meter competition with 252.95 points. The Brooklyn, N.Y. product registered two more NCAA qualifying marks on Saturday as she scored 449.85 points to qualify in the 11-dive three-meter, and 264.15 points to qualify in the six-dive three-meter. Both scores were also good enough for first-place finishes.
