Worcester, Mass. – February 21, 2014 – Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) led the Springfield College men’s swimming & diving team on Friday in day two of the New England Women’s & Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship at WPI.
The sophomore swam to a second place finish in the 200 IM, finishing in 1:53.63, which meets NCAA “B” cut standards.
Normoyle also swam on two top-five relay teams on Friday, including the fifth place 200 free relay team with Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.), Josh Frey (East Hartford, Conn.), and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.). The team swam a combined time of 1:26.46.
Springfield’s 400 medley relay team of Normoyle, Cassidy, Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.) and Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) swam to a third place finish in 3:27.15 in the day’s final event.
Saturday’s events will feature the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, the men’s 1-meter dive and the 200 medley relay. Preliminary events kick off at 10:00 a.m. and the finals will begin at 6:00 p.m.
