Babson Outlasts Men’s Swimming and Diving, 156.5-140.5

Babson Park, Mass. – January 25, 2014 – The Springfield College men’s swimming and diving team suffered a 156.5-140.5 setback to Babson College on Saturday afternoon.

Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) swam the fastest time in the 100 free, a 49.58, while Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.) claimed first in the 200 breast with a 2:10.47, and the 200 IM in 2:01.55.

On the one-meter board, Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) cruised to a victory with a national-qualifying mark of 307.15. The junior also was victorious on the three-meter with a final score of 298.50. Padraic Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) finished second on both boards, tallying a 287.75 on the three-meter and a 255.50 on the one-meter.

In the 200 medley relay Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.), Brad Mills (Enfield, Conn.), Benjamin Ernst (West Springfield, Mass.), and Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) combined to swim a 1:40.68 to place second.

Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) touched second in the 1,000 free in 10:22.12, while Scotto earned second-place points in the 200 free with a 1:48.17.

Mills swam the 100 breast in 1:01.90 and posted a 2:15.02 in the 200 breast as he earned second-place points in each event. Ernst was also the runner up in the 200 fly with a 2:03.70 as well as the 100 fly with a 55.30.

In the 500 free, Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) registered a 5:00.30 for second, and Cassidy tied for second in the 50 free after posting a 22.82.

Springfield closed out the meet with a win the 400 free relay with Cassidy, Ernst, Fay, and Scotto recording a 3:17.16.

The Pride will compete at Middlebury on both Friday and Saturday of next week.
