Men's Swimming and Diving Competes in Day Two of Ithaca College Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - December 2, 2017 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team competed in the second day of the three-day Ithaca College Invitational, hosted in the Aquatics Pavilion on the campus of Ithaca College on Saturday. 

As the day was split into a morning and evening session, the Pride kicked off the morning session with the 200 freestyle relay, as the team of Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.), Tim DeCoste (Greenville, R.I.), Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) took sixth overall with a time of 1:28.85, before Christopher Schreiner (Fairfield, Conn.) was the Pride's top finisher in teh 400 individual medley, as the freshman clocked in at 4:43.25.

Next, in the 100 butterfly, Parsons took 17th with a time of 52.77 seconds, while in the 200 freestyle, Smith was Springfield College's top finisher as he nothced a time of 1:49.16, good for 26th overall. Lastly, inthe 400 medley relay, the team of Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Parsons, DeCoste and Mitchell took seventh with a time of 3:39.95.

On the three-meter board, freshman Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) took fifth overall as he racked up 449.30 points.

In the evening session, Harnish took 12th overall in the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.83, before Parsons produced another top-10 finish, taking seventh in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.93. Lastly, in the 800 freestyle relay, the team of Mitchell, Harnish, DeCoste and Smith took ninth overall, combining for a time of 7:21.79.

Springfield College will resume the second day of the three-day event in the evening session, which is expected to begin at 6 p.m.
