Kingston, R.I. - October 27, 2018 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team was edged by the Coast Guard Academy, 149-132, on Saturday afternoon in the first meet of the 2018-19 campaign at the University of Rhode Island on Saturday.
Valmore Stewart (Windsor, Conn.) swept the diving competition as he won the one-meter with a score of 244.60 and later scored a 254.10 on the three-meter. The Pride's Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) also finished second on both boards, scoring a 234.25 on the one-meter and a 233.55 on the three-meter.
In the 200 free, Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) delivered a 1:49.66 to produce second-place points, while in the 200 medley relay, Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Andy Endress (Belchertown, Mass.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) combined to swim a 1:41.31 for a third-place finish.
In his first meet at Springfield, Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) registered a time of 2:25.63 in the 200 breast, Jensen posted a 5:01.45 in the 500 free, and Endress completed the 100 fly with a 56.38. Brendon Egan (Southington, Conn.) finished the 200 IM in 2:14.67, and the team of Endress, Mitchell, Jensen, and Harnish closed out the meet with a 1:31.51 in the 200 free relay.
Next Saturday, Springfield will travel to race against MIT for a 1 pm dual.
