Springfield, Mass. - November 11, 2018 - Competing for the second time this weekend, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team lost a 164-130 decision to Babson College in the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Sunday afternoon.
In the 200 medley relay, Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) clocked in with a 1:40.40 which was good for second in the event.
Harnish placed first with a 54.95 in the 100 back while Jensen won the 200 fly and the 500 free with a time of 1:58.92 and 4:58.33, and was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a 2:02.88. Harnish would also finish second in the 200 backstroke and placed third in the 100 fly in 56.53. Nick Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) was impressive in the 1000 freestyle as he touched in 10:44.26, which placed him in second.
Mitchell sprinted the 50 free in 23.09 to finish in second, and later took third in the 100 free in 50.60. Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) completed the 200 breast in 2:21.85 to earn him a second-place finish in the event. In the 200 free, Matt Winter (Suffield, Conn.) registered a 1:56.99, while Soares swam the 100 breast in 1:05.30.
Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) registered two national-qualifying marks for the Pride as he posted a 309.83 on the three meter to earn the top spot and was also victorious on the one-meter after producing a 291.68.
Tim Decoste (Greenville, R.I.), Smith, Andy Endress (Belchertown, Mass.), and Mitchell concluded the meet with a 1:32.35 in the 200 free relay.
Springfield will compete again on Friday when it travels to Williamstown to compete against Williams.
