Springfield, Mass. - November 17, 2018 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team split a tri-meet with Keene State and Wheaton on Saturday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium. The Pride bested Keene State, 198-101, but dropped a 168-130 decision to Wheaton.
Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) swept the diving competition as he won the one-meter with a score of 310.80 and later scored a 350.00 on the three-meter, delivering national-qualifying scores on both boards. Nick Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) finished second in the 1000 free with a time of 10:46.32. Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) won the 200 free with a time 1:48.80 and finished second in the 100 free with a 50.36. The Pride's Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) delivered a 2:01.55 as he was the first to touch the wall in the 200 fly.
Christopher Schreiner (Fairfield, Conn.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Andy Endress (Belchertown, Mass.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) combined to swim a 3:54.58 in the 400 relay, while Schreiner would finish the 100 backstroke in 1:02.92 and the 200 back in 2:14.34, and Mitchell sprinted to a 22.90 in the 50 free.
Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) registered a time of 1:06.42 in the 100 breast and 2:22.41 in the 200 breast, Harnish would post a 5:00.88 in the 500 free, which was good for a first place finish. Additionally, Jensen won the 100 fly with a 53.42 and was the first to finish in the 200 IM in 2:04.59.
The team of Endress, Mitchell, Jensen, and Harnish closed out the meet with a 1:31.43 in the 200 free relay.
Next up for the Pride will be the Ithaca Invitational, which will take place from November 30-December 2.
