Worcester, Mass. - February 23, 2019 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the third day of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday and is in fourth place with 373 points.
Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) highlighted a terrific outing on the one-meter board by the Springfield College divers as he finished as the conference champion. The sophomore posted a 543.15 to win his first-ever conference title, while teammate Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) finished fourth with a 504.20. Valmore Stewart (Windsor, Conn.) took fifth after totaling a 451.15 and Sean Andrews (Framingham, Mass.) scored a 439.35 to take eighth. Based on their performances, all four earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Division III Regional Championship.
Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) clocked in at 50.93 in the 100 fly to finish in 11th place, while Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) had Springfield's best showing in the 200 free with a 1:45.63. In the 100 breast, Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) posted a 1:01.47, and Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) finished the 100 back in 53.23.
The 200 medley relay unit of Harnish, Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Andy Endress (Belchertown, Mass.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) recorded a time of 1:36.19 in the final race of the night.
