Orlando, Fla. - March 16, 2017 - The Springfield College men's tennis team earned its fourth-straight victory with a 7-2 triumph against Scranton on Thursday during its annual spring break trip.
With the win, Springfield improved to 5-1 on the season, giving the Pride it's best start to the season since the 1996-97 squad kicked off the year 6-1.
Springfield continued to get great production in doubles action, led by the duo of Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) and Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.), who delivered an 8-2 win at the No. 1 spot. The Pride won the other two doubles matches by identical 8-6 decisions, with Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) claiming the win at No. 2 and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) victorious at No. 3.
The Pride's top four singles players all won on the afternoon to help the Pride clinch the 7-2 win. Romaine won his sixth-straight match at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory, while Honda cruised to a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 3. At the No. 4 spot, Danielewicz registered a 6-3, 6-4 win and DeVarennes added a 6-3, 7-6 (6) victory at the No. 1 slot.
Springfield will play its final match of its time in Florida on Friday morning versus Transylvania at 8 am.
