Boston, Mass. - March 20, 2017 - Following a dominant week in Florida during their annual Spring Break, the Springfield College men's tennis team swept the weekly New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) honors.
Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) was chosen as the NEWMAC Men's Tennis Singles Athlete of the Week, while Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) and Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) were selected as the NEWMAC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week.
The trio was instrumental in helping Springfield run its winning streak to five matches, marking the second-straight season and just the third time since 1999 that the program has enjoyed such a winning streak. Additionally, the current Springfield team has matched the 1996-97 squad's start of 6-1 to begin the year.
DeVarennes was dominant at the top singles spot for the Pride, appearing wins in their first three matches of the week. Competing at the No. 1 doubles spot, Romaine and Honda earned three impressive wins against Gettysburg, Scranton, and Transylvania as it didn't surrender more than four points in any of the matches.
