Dudley, Mass. - September 16, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team took the courts on Sunday afternoon and competed in the Nichols Invitational, finishing up a busy weekend of competition.
Springfield, which opened up the season on Saturday afternoon at the Connecticut College Invitational, battled tough against Ramapo, Colby-Sawyer, and Nichols.
In the Doubles "A" flight, Jack Wheeler (Irvine, Calif.) and Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) dropped an 8-4 decision to Aidan Stuart and Enrico Menegron of Nichols before falling 8-3 to Seth Frey and Cyrus Dastparvardeh of Rampo, 8-3. Also, the team of Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) and James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) lost 8-1 to Blake Norton and Sebastian Penaloza of Nichols before being edged by Ramapo's team of Bryce Blumenthal and Brendan Hines., 8-5
In singles play, Drew Delorenzo (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) was defeated in the third place match by a 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 decision to Colby-Sawyer's Mike White after previously fallying to K. Ilnets of Ramapo, 6-0, 6-2. Lucas VanDeventer (Ellington, Conn.) was bested by Jack Donaldson from Nichols in the opening match and then was topped by Cam Lynch from Colby-Sawyer, 6-1, 6-3. Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) also competed for the Pride, losing 6-2, 6-0 to Guilherme Barbosa from Nichols and a 6-1, 6-0 to Mike Abalev from Ramapo.
