Springfield, Mass. - October 10, 2018 - The Springfield College men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to visiting Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon on Appleton Courts.
Battling a Division I opponent who competes in the Patriot League, Springfield dropped its first match of the season.
In doubles action, the top two teams of the Pride both fell by 8-4 decisions, as Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) and Jack Wheeler (Irvine, Calif.) played at the top spot and Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Drew DeLorenzo (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) represented the Pride at No. 2.
In singles action, the Pride's Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) put together a gritty effort at the No. 5 spot as he took the opening set 6-3 before his opponent rallied with scores of 6-2, 10-8 complete the comeback. Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) also had a strong showing at No. 6 before bowing out, 6-2, 6-3.
