New London, Conn. - April 3, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Coast Guard in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Springfield, which had won its last two outings, dropped to 3-5, 0-1 on the season with the setback.
The Pride's best showing in doubles play came from the No. 2 team of Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.), as the were defeated by a score of 8-3. In singles, Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) nearly pulled off the comeback at the top spot before falling 6-2, 2-6, 10-5. Anastopoulos was edged by a 6-4, 6-0 margin at No. 4 singles, while Moffa was bested by a score of 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3.
The Pride will start a three-match homestand on Saturday when it hosts conference-rival Wheaton at 2 pm on Appleton Courts.
