Springfield, Mass. - January 21, 2017 - The Springfield College men's track and field team claimed two individual first place finishes in the Maroon & White Classic, a nine-team home meet for the Pride.
Sophomore dual-sport athlete Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.) turned in an extraordinary performance, as he broke the school's indoor pole vault record with a leap of 14 feet, 11 inches. Also competing for the NEWMAC-Champion Springfield College men's soccer program, Deckel broke Roland Praech's previous record of 14 feet, 6 inches, set in 1972.
Sophomore Jason Laramee (Great Barrington, Mass.) claimed first place for Springfield in the men's high jump, leaping 6 feet 6.25 inches. Freshman Hunter DuPont (Wynantskill, N.Y.) completed the 60 meter hurdles in 8.72 seconds, which earned him a second place finish in the event.
Junior Timothy Harvey (Middletown, Conn.) jumped 19 feet, 9.75 inches in the men's long jump and yielded a third place finish.
Freshman Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) finished fourth in the men's 60 meter dash with a time of 7.19 seconds, while also claiming fifth in the 200 meter dash after clocking a time of 23.53 seconds. Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.) ran a time of 9:11.06 in the 3,000 meter run, earning him a fifth place finish on the day.
The Pride's next meet is on Jan. 28 in the Massasoit Classic.
