Men's Track and Field Competes In Massasoit Classic

Springfield, Mass. - January 28, 2017 - Led by another record-breaking performance by Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.), the Springfield College men's track and field program competed in the Massasoit Classic on Saturday afternoon in a non-scoring meet with Amherst, Trinity, ECSU, Westfield State and Lehman.

A week removed for setting a new school record in the indoor pole vault that had stood since 1972, Deckel added another six inches to his record after producing a leap of 15 feet, 5 inches. 

Sophomore Jason Laramee (Great Barrington, Mass.) once claimed first place for Springfield in the men's high jump, leaping 6 feet 4 inches. In the 60 meter dash, Deshaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) crossed the finish line first in a winning time of 7.17 and later took fourth in the 200 with a time of 23.49.

Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.) clocked in the mile in 4:35.53 for sixth, while teammate Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.) also finished sixth in the 800 in 2:07.84.

In the weight throw, Nick Blood (Denville, N.J.) placed fourth with a distance of 42-04.75, while Caleb Nielsen (Bridgeport, Conn.) registered a leap of 19-04.75 in the long jump to take fourth. 

Next weekend, Springfield will head north to compete in the Dartmouth Classic in Hanover, N.H.
