New London, Conn. - April 14, 2017 - The Springfield College men's track and field team competed against a pair of New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foes on Friday evening as it battled Coast Guard and WPI.
WPI totaled 166 points to win the tri-meet, followed by Coast Guard's 124 points and Springfield's 95.
Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) won the 100 meters after crossing the finish line in 11.04, and also took fifth in the 200 with a 22.35. Daniel Lane (Southwick, Mass.) cruised to the win in the 110 hurdles after posting a 57.79 and Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) topped the field in the high jump after clearing 1.98 meters. Additionally, in the javelin throw, Springfield had the top two finishers as Whit DeVaux (Wethersfield, Conn.) (59.49 meters), Rich Williams (Wethersfield, Conn.) (53.72 meters) led the field.
Hunter DuPont (Wynantskill, N.Y.) was the runner up in both the 110 hurdles (16.12) and the 400 hurdles (58.11), and Ben Malin (North Easton, Mass.) ran a 9:55.01 in the 3,000 meter steeplechase to earn second-place points.
In the pole vault, Jack Sheerin (Princeton Junction, N.J.) reached a height of 3.95 meters for second place,
The Pride will host the Springfield College Classic on April 22.
