Men's Track and Field Wins Six Events at the Maroon and White Classic

Springfield, Mass. - January 20, 2018 - The Springfield College men's track and field team won six out of the possible 16 events at the Maroon and White Classic, an eight-team non-scoring meet hosted in the Springfield College Field House on Saturday.

After earning a spot in the 60 meter dash finals, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) took fourth with a time of 7.11 seconds before winning the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.90 seconds. Next, in the 400, freshman Ben Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine) took second with a time of 52.71 seconds, just outlasting teammate and classmate Kris Rhim (Philadelphia, Pa.), who placed fourth with a time of 53.19 seconds. Next, Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) won the mile, as he crossed the finish line in 4:16.88, before Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.) finished third in the 3k with a time of 9:28.15.

Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) notched a fourth-place finish in the 5k with a time of 16:25.63, before in the 60 meter high hurdles, Damian Mackay-Morgan (Simsbury, Conn.) was just 0.02 second off the program record, as he won with a time of 8.60 seconds. The 4x400 relay team, consisting of Batoosingh, Pinho, Kyle Fernandez (Holden, Mass.) and Erik King (Shrewsbury, Mass.) combined to win with a time of 3:28.41, while moving on to the field events, Parker Cronin (Ledyard, Conn.) won the pole vault, clearing a career-best 12 feet, 11.50 inches. 

Freshmen Josh Silvester (Manchester, Conn.) and Stefan Porter (Lewiston, Maine) tied for first in the triple jump as they both cleared 43 feet, 7 inches, while in the throwing events, Tom Callis (Tolland, Conn.) took fourth in the shot put with a heave of 44 feet, 11.75 inches.

Springfield College will return to action on Saturday, January 27, as the Pride will host the Massasoit Classic back in the Field House beginning at 1:30 p.m.
