Middlebury, Vt. - February 17, 2018 - Senior Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) won the mile and Joe Gaudreau (Wilmington, Mass.) earned All-Region honors as the Springfield College men's track and field team competed at the Division III New England Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships on the New Balance Foundation Track in Middlebury College's Virtue Field House on Saturday.
Tufts won the meet with 110 points, while MIT was second overall with 97. Rounding out the top five was Williams (92.5), Middlebury (83) and WPI (72.5). Springfield College's 15th-place finish was the Pride's best since the 2013-14 season when the maroon and white took 13th overall.
Pinho continued his stellar senior season as he recorded a time of 4:12.74 in the mile, defeating the rest of the field by over two seconds en route to a Division III New England title in the event. Additionally, in the 200 meter dash, Gaudreau produced a time of 22.72 seconds, taking seventh overall and earning All-Region accolades for the first time in his career.
Racing in the 60 meter dash prelims, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) clocked in at 7.17 seconds, just missing the cut for finals, before in the 400 meter dash, Erik King (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took 19th with a time of 52.87 seconds. Cormac Tolan (Greenville, N.Y.) took 11th in the 1000 meter run with a time of 2:37.87, while in the 60 meter hurdle prelims, Damian Mackay-Morgan (Simsbury, Conn.) was the Pride's top finisher with a mark of 8.88 seconds.
Springfield College's 4x400 meter relay team of Ben Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine), Pinho, Kris Rhim (Philadelphia, Pa.) and King took 10th overall with a time of 3:27.82, while the distance medley relay team of Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.), Kyle Fernandez (Holden, Mass.), Tolan and Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.) combined for a time of 11:00.74, good for 11th.
In the field events, Kyle Kublbeck (Gardner, Mass.) took 11th in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 3.25 inches, while Jarod Authier (Chicopee, Mass.) took 20th in the long jump with a distance of 19 feet, 2.75 inches. In the triple jump, Josh Silvester (Manchester, Conn.) took ninth with a distance of 44 feet, 4 inches, just missing out on all-region honors, while Tom Callis (Tolland, Conn.) finished 11th in the shot put with a heave of 44 feet, 9 inches.
