Mahwah, N.J. - March 30, 2018 - The Springfield College men's track and field team opened up the 2018 outdoor season on Friday afternoon at the Ramapo Invitational, a 17-team meet hosted by Ramapo College.
The Pride sit in third place after the Friday events, as it produced 18 points on the day. Springfield College only trails Vassar (23) and Delhi (28).
Kicking off the day with the 5000 meter run, Springfield College's Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) finished second overall, while Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.) took 14th with a time of 16:11.06 in his home state. Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.) was 21st with a time of 16:32.01.
Freshman thrower Daniel Stevenson (Meriden, Conn.) took fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 42.20 meters, while Matt Blanchette (Palmer, Mass.) followed with a distance of 39.79 meters. Nick Blood (Denville, N.J.) was seventh, heaving 39.02 meters.
Sophomore Tom Callis (Tolland, Conn.) was third in the shot put with a distance of 13.00 meters, while Stevenson was fifth with a heave of 12.47 meters.
The Pride will resume competition down in Mahwah, N.J. on Saturday, March 31. The meet is set to begin at 10 a.m.
