New London, Conn. - April 14, 2018 - The Springfield College men's track and field team had an impressive showing at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational, a two-day meet featuring 18 teams from across Division II and Division III. The Pride finished sixth overall with a score of 56.5 points.
Sophomore Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) took fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.09 seconds, before following it up with a sixth-place finish in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 22.49 seconds. Following Hansen in the 200 was Joe Gaudreau (Wilmington, Mass.), who notched a time 22.66 seconds. Drew Dickinson (Portsmouth, N.H.) took 10th in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.03 seconds.
The Pride's 4x100 team consisting of Eric Foster (Windsor, Conn.), Deshaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.), Gaudreau and Hansen took second with a time of 42.89 seconds, while in the high jump, John Cruz (Springfield, Mass.) tied for third in the high jump, clearing 1.88 meters. Daniel Stevenson (Meriden, Conn.) was the Pride's top performer in the throwing events as he took seventh in the discus with a heave of 39.16 meters, before taking ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 44.80 meters.
Senior Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) had an outstanding showing in the 800 meter run on Friday night as he took third with a time of 1:53.34, finishing ahead of Cormac Tolan (Greenville, N.Y.), who posted a career-best time of 1:58.37.
Up next, Springfield College will return home to host the Springfield College Invitational, which will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 21.
