Men's Track and Field Takes Ninth at Corsair Classic to Open Outdoor Season

North Dartmouth, Mass. - March 30, 2019 - The Springfield College men's track and field team opened the 2019 outdoor season at the Corsair Classic on Saturday afternoon, as the Pride scored 28 points en route to a ninth-place finish out of 20 teams.

Bridgewater State won the meet with 141 points, and Westfield State was second with 109. Rounding out the top five was Eastern Connecticut (108), UMass Dartmouth (92) and Worcester State (88). 

Freshman Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) took fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:16.76, while Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.) was sixth in the men's 5k with a mark of 16:10.13. Dan Lane (Southwick, Mass.) was fifth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.74, while in the field events, Dante Curry (Torrington, Conn.) earned Springfield College fifth-place points in the triple jump with a mark of 12.93 meters.

Daniel Stevenson (Meriden, Conn.) took third in the hammer with a heave of 47.42 meters, while in the javelin throw, Evan Tryon (New London, Conn.) finished sixth with a mark of 49.25 meters.

Springfield College will now be split among the AIC Invitational and the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton on Saturday, April 6.
