Springfield, Mass. - April 20, 2019 - The Springfield College men's track and field team had three of student-athletes take first overall in their respective events at the Springfield College Outdoor Classic on Saturday, as Cormac Tolan (Greenville, N.Y.) won the 800 meter run, Xavier Washington (Albany, N.Y.) won the 110 meter hurdles and Kyle Kublbeck (Great Barrington, Mass.) won the high jump.
In the men's 3k, Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.) was second with a time of 9:29.62, finishing just ahead of teammate JT McMillen (Dunellen, N.J.), who took fifth with a time of 9:54.41. In the 110 meter hurdles, Washington won with a time of 15.98 seconds, just ahead of Dan Lane (Southwick, Mass.), who turned in a time of 15.96 seconds.
In the 400 meter dash, Kris Rhim (Philadelphia, Pa.) was sixth with a time of 52.07 seconds, while DeShaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) was fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.68 seconds, finishing just ahead of Eric McCracken (Gales Ferry, Conn.), who came in at fifth with a time of 11.74 seconds. Tolan won the 800 meter run in impressive fashion, clocking in at 1:59.94, while Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) trailed with a time of 2:04.40. McCracken also took fourth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 23.21 seconds.
In the field events, junior Evan Tryon (New London, Conn.) took second in the javelin throw with a heave of 49.29 meters, while Tom Callis (Tolland, Conn.) was sixth in the event with a mark of 39.93 meters. Daniel Stevenson (Meriden, Conn.) was second in the hammer with a heave of 47.68 meters, while in the shot put, the junior was third with a distance of 11.92 meters.
Senior Jarod Authier (Chicopee, Mass.) was second in the long jump with a mark of 6.55 meters, while in the triple jump, Dante Curry (Torrington, Conn.) was second with a distance of 13.12 meters. Kublbeck won the high jump after clearing 1.65 meters, as he just edged Connor Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.), who cleared 1.85 meters.
Competing at the Larry Ellis Invitational, hosted at Princeton University, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) was the top Division III finisher in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.06 seconds, while in the 200 meter dash, the junior clocked in at 22.00 to finish ninth in the event. Ben Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine) also competed in the event, taking 16th with a time of 22.15 seconds. Damian Mackay-Morgan (Simsbury, Conn.) raced in the 110 meter hurdles prelims, and notched a time of 15.20 seconds to finish 16th as well.
Up next, Springfield College will prepare for the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships, which will be hosted at Blake Track on Saturday, April 27 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
