Silvester and Hansen Lead Men's Track and Field at NEICAAA All New England Championships

New Haven, Conn. - May 11, 2019 - The Springfield College men's track and field team had student-athletes compete at the NEICAAA All New England Championships this past weekend, as they were able to compete against some of the region's top competition in an attempt to qualify for the national stage.

Springfield College finished the meet in 11th place with 23 points. The Pride's 11th-place result marks the highest placement for the maroon and white at the All New England Championship in the last 10 seasons.

On Friday, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) had an impressive showing as the junior had the fifth-best time in the 100 meter dash prelims, crossing in 10.88 seconds, before taking third in the 200 meter dash prelims, notching a time of 21.57 seconds to take third and bump him up to the Top 25 in all of Division III in the event.

Coming back on Saturday, Hansen kept his strong junior season going as he took second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.82 seconds, before finishing third in the 200 meter dash, crossing in 21.43 seconds, lifting himself into the top 15 of Division III in the event. Hansen also anchored the 4x100 meter relay team, along with Ben Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine), DeShaun Dias (Mashpee, Mass.) and Eric McCracken (Gales Ferry, Conn.), which took fifth with a combined time of 42.00 seconds. 

Also competing in the 200 meter dash, Batoosingh took 12th overall with a time of 21.94 seconds, as he also finished 18th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.12 seconds. Damian Mackay-Morgan (Simsbury, Conn.) raced in the 110 meter hurdles and took 16th with a time of 15.23 seconds.

In the field events, Josh Silvester (Manchester, Conn.) had an impressive day for the Pride as he took fourth overall in the triple jump with a mark of 14.60 meters, which placed him in the top 15 of all of Division III in the event. Jarod Authier (Chicopee, Mass.) also competed in the long jump on Friday and produced a distance of 6.24 meters to finish 21st overall.
