Geneva, Ohio - May 23, 2019 - Junior Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) closed out his impressive 2018-19 campaign with a 12th-place finish in the 200 meter dash prelims at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted at the SPIRE Institute on Thursday.
Hansen, who came into the meet seeded No. 17, competed in the first of three heats and notched a time of 21.82 seconds, which ended up being the 12th-fastest time of the day. Due to the winner of each heat plus the next six fastest times qualifying for finals on Saturday, Hansen's season would come to a close on Thursday.
It was quite the year for Hansen, who was named the 2019 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Track Athlete of the Year after winning conference titles in the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash, and 4x100 meter relay. Hansen, who also earned a Division III New England Championship in the 100 meter dash, produced a mark of 21.43 seconds in the 200 meter dash at the NEICAAA All New England Championships, which was just .33 seconds off of Steven Headley's program record of 21.10 seconds.
This was Hansen's second trip to the national stage this season, as he also qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 200 meter dash.
