Springfield, Mass.-September 20, 2014- The Springfield College men's cross country team finished 16th of 34 teams competing in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Johnny O'Hanlon (Haworth, N.J.) ran a team- best 26.14.08 to finish 38th.
Franklin Pierce totaled 50 points to win the Invitational, followed by WPI's total of 100 points. Brandies (105), New Paltz (134) and Bentley (148) rounded out the top five.
O'Hanlon ran the 8k course with an average mile time of 5:14.9 to pace the Pride. Teammate Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.) was the next fastest runner for Springfield, crossing 83rd in 27:10.09.
Joe Geurds (Albany, N.Y.) crossed the finish line in the 91st slot, with a time of 27:19.35. Scott Bushey (Hebron, Conn.) and Jacob Simons (Naugatuck, Conn.) rounded out the top five for the Pride. Bushey posted a 27:29.56 to take 100th. Simons crossed the mark at 28:08.02 in the 131st spot.
Springfield will next race in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College next Saturday.
