Tim Hartung Named Full-Time Assistant Cross Country/Distance Coach at Springfield College

Springfield, Mass. - June 8, 2018 - Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to announce that Tim Hartung has been named the full-time assistant men's and women's cross country/distance coach at Springfield College.

"I want to thank Dr. Poisson, Coach Steinman, and the student-athletes of the cross country and track field teams for granting me the opportunity to continue my coaching career in a full-time capacity at Springfield College," said Hartung. "It is a privilege to be working on behalf of such a storied athletic department and a student-athlete body that continually proves to be one of the best among Division III athletics. I'm eager to work with Coach Steinman, Coach Miller, and our graduate assistants to continue the advancement of the cross country and track and field programs toward perennially competing at the top of the conference, region, and nation. It is through Springfield College's unabating refinement of the spirit, mind, and body that I know the sky is the limit for these student-athletes and programs."

Hartung had an illustrious career as a student-athlete at York College, as he earned seven NCAA Division III All-America honors, including three in outdoor track and field, and two in both cross country and indoor track and field.  Additionally, he was named the All-Capital Athletic Conference Athlete of the Year five times, captured three Capital Athletic Conference men's cross country titles, was a 16-time Capital Athletic Conference indoor and outdoor track and field champion, and a two-time Capital One Academic All-America selection.

"Tim's accomplishments, both as a student-athlete and professional are very impressive," said Poisson. "I know that his commitment and dedication to excellence will make a difference with our student-athletes and their experiences at Springfield College."

After graduating from York in 2014 with a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Hartung was an assistant cross country coach at Lebanon Valley College in 2015. Most recently he was a graduate assistant for the cross country and track and field teams at Goucher College while obtaining his Master's in Athletic Leadership and Administration. As a Registered Nurse, Hartung spent time at Penn State Hershey Medical Center and Chesapeake Medical Staffing.

""I am excited to welcome Coach Hartung to our coaching staff at Springfield College. His energy, enthusiasm and knowledge as a distance runner will make an immediate impact on our program, contributing to the first-class student-athlete experience," said Springfield College head cross country Anna Steinman.  "Coach Hartung's experiences as a runner at the Division III level, coupled with his passion for cross country and track and field, will help develop our student-athletes both in the competitive arenas and in the classroom."
