Northampton, Mass. - September 8, 2018 - The Springfield College men's cross country team had five student-athletes place in the Top 15 at the Smith College Invitational on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a first-place finish for the Pride. This marks the second time in the last four years that the Pride has come away from the Smith College Invitational victorious.
Leading the pack was graduate student Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.), who took first overall with a time of 26:39.4 on the 8k course.
The Pride totaled 39 points on the day, as it was trailed by Franklin Pierce (58), Keene State (63), Babson (66) and Wheaton (117) to round out the top five.
Pinho averaged a 5:21.7 mile time to take first overall, while he was followed by Tyler Cronin (Melrose, Mass.), who took fifth overall with a time of 28:07.1. Next for Springfield College was Owen Ross (Closter, N.J.), who clocked in at 28:17.9, just ahead of Ryan Vermette (Nashua, N.H.), who notched a time of 28:39.0. From there, Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) was 13th overall with a time of 28:48.9, while Chris Tringali (Millville, Mass.) was next with a time of 28:50.8.
The Pride will return to the course on Saturday, September 15 when it travels to the UMass Dartmouth Invitational, expected to begin at 10:30 a.m.
