NCAA BOUND: Softball Earns At-Large Bid Into NCAA Championship Tournament; Will Host Opening-Round Regional May 12-14

Springfield, Mass. - May 8, 2017 - For the first time since 2013, the Springfield College softball team will enter the NCAA Division III Softball National Championship Tournament, and will host an opening-round regional from May 12-14 on Potter Field.

The Pride will square off with Salve Regina, which earned an automatic qualification after winning the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) with a 3-0 win over Roger Williams on Sunday, May 7. The other two teams that will compete in the pod are Amherst College, which earned an at-large bid after falling in the New England Small College Athletic Confernece (NESCAC) Championship to Williams. The Mammoths will take on UMass Boston, which earned an automatic qualification after sweeping Plymouth State in the Little East Championship this past weekend.

The Pride, which is currently 32-9 and receiving votes in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) National Rankings, earned one of 18 at-large bids into the NCAA Championship Tournament. The Pride have earned automatic qualifications into the NCAA Championship Tournament after winning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) titles in 2013, 2009, 2008 and 2000, but this marks the first at-large bid for Springfield College softball since 1999.

It has been a historical season for the Pride, as Springfield College's 32 wins marks the most since to 2003 season. The Pride has been led by the NEWMAC Softball Coach of the Year, Kate Bowen, as well as NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, Kirsten Drobiak (Griswold, Conn.) and NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year, Talia Loda (East Haven, Conn.).
