Springfield, Mass. - January 14, 2019 - Springfield College's Gracie Restituyo (Barrington, R.I.) of the women's basketball team has been honored for her impressive play last week, as the senior forward was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Basktball Defensive Athlete of the Week, announced on Monday afternoon.
In addition to being named NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week, Restituyo was also named to the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) Honor Roll.
This marks the second-consecutive week that a member of the Springfield College women's basketball team has received NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week honors, as junior guard Alex Goslin (South Windsor, Conn.) earned the weekly award on Monday, January 7.
Restituyo, a senior forward for Springfield College, was tremendous this past week as she averaged 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds in two NEWMAC wins for the Pride. In a 63-50 win over Coast Guard, Restituyo posted 15 points to go along with a career-best 16 boards, before helping Springfield College to a 58-57 win over MIT, producing 18 points and 13 rebounds.Of her 29 rebounds on the week, 20 were on the defensive end of the floor.
The Pride will play a pair of NEWMAC contests this week, as it will travel to WPI on Wednesday, January 16 at 6 p.m. before returning to Blake Arena on Saturday, January 19 for a 10 a.m. tilt with Babson.
