Providence, R.I. - January 15, 2017 - Benefitting from a dominant afternoon from the sophomore duo of Jessica Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) and Heather Gomes (Beverly, Mass.), the Springfield College women's gymnastics team took third overall in a quad meet hosted by Rhode Island College.
Brockport was the top finisher with 187.600 points, while Ithaca took second with a score of 183.200, then Springfield College with a score of 183.050 and Rhode Island College with a 176.375.
Clemens was terrific on the afternoon, as she won the All-Around competition with a career-best score of 37.575, including an individual victory on the uneven bars with a career-high score of 9.600, and a fourth-place finish on the balance beam with an identical mark of 9.600. The sophomore also notched a 9.425 on vault and an 8.950 on her floor routine on the afternoon.
Gomes was dominant in the three events she competed in, as the sophomore posted a 9.475 on vault, good for second, tied her career-best score of 9.650 on beam where she finished third overall, and was the Pride's second-highest scorer on the floor exercise, posting a 9.000.
Additionally, juniors Ashley Parchinski (Chester, N.Y.) and Lauren White (Littleton, Mass.) had a strong meet, as Parchinski scored a 9.400 on the uneven bars, tying the fourth-highest score of the day, while White was Springfield College's top finisher on the floor, scoring a 9.050.
In her first collegiate meet, freshman Tali Twomey (Cotuit, Mass.) was impressive on vault, as she notched a score of 9.450, tying for fourth overall in the meet. Also competing for the first time was Taylor Jackson (Ocean, N.J.), who competed in three events, her best being the vault, where she produced a 9.200.
Up next, Springfield College will travel to Brockport, N.Y. on January 28 for a dual meet with the Golden Eagles at 1 p.m.
